Lao Minister of Public Works and Transport, Lielay Sivilay, inspects Bokeo International Airport

  On January 17, 2026, Mr. Liem Lek Sivilay, Minister of Public Works and Transport of Laos, led a delegation to Bokeo Province for an inspection of infrastructure construction, including a visit to Bokeo International Airport. The inspection aimed to strengthen the airport's role in promoting local socio-economic development. Mr. Phophilong Phommalin, Deputy General Manager of Bokeo International Airport, welcomed the delegation and briefed them on the airport's construction and operation status.

  During the visit, Minister Liem Lek Sivilay inspected the airport's infrastructure and various service functions, and received a detailed report on its operational overview, highlights, conveniences, challenges, and future development plans. Representatives from various departments and the Bokeo Provincial Department of Public Works and Transport spoke, offering suggestions on optimizing operational plans and improving service levels to ensure the airport's efficient operation.

  Minister Liem Lek Sivilay fully affirmed the airport's achievements, especially its contributions to promoting regional connectivity and driving tourism development. Meanwhile, the minister requested the airport to further improve management efficiency, strictly control safety management and service quality, and emphasized the need to strengthen the training of local Lao talent to prepare for future job transitions and independent operations.

  Bokeo International Airport, located in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone of Bokeo Province, Laos, was built to international 4C standards and officially opened in 2024. As Laos' third largest airport and the largest modern international airport in the north, it is not only a proud "new gateway to the Golden Triangle" on the banks of the Mekong River, but also a key air hub connecting Laos with neighboring countries and leading to regional prosperity.
