Security measures in Laos' Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone have been comprehensively upgraded to crack down on the influx of illegal personnel, and to address rumors of the relocation of individuals involved in cases.

On November 1, 2025, security measures in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone in Bokeo Province, Laos, have been comprehensively strengthened, and entry and exit management has become stricter. In response to rumors circulating that "some individuals involved in criminal activities attempted to flee from Myanmar to the zone," local law enforcement agencies are continuously intensifying various checks to maintain regional security and stability.

Media visits to the area observed a significant decrease in population activity within the special economic zone compared to before. Recently, authorities have conducted multiple building inspections and routine patrols. Many individuals suspected of online illegal activities left before the enforcement actions began, while others were apprehended and dealt with according to law.

It is understood that due to ongoing crackdowns in Myawaddy and surrounding areas of Myanmar, the possibility of some individuals involved in criminal activities attempting to transfer through neighboring regions cannot be ruled out. However, multiple sources indicate that the area surrounding the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone is currently under strict management, with Lao military and police conducting routine patrols along the border. People entering and leaving the special economic zone must undergo multiple identity verifications and security checks, making it highly unlikely that the individuals involved in the aforementioned rumors have successfully entered the zone.

Analysts point out that the region, bordering Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos, has numerous natural passageways, raising the possibility that some individuals might attempt to use it as a transit route to other countries. However, Lao authorities have further strengthened their oversight of border crossings by land and sea to prevent the movement of illegal individuals.

Currently, the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone is continuously promoting the development of its cultural tourism and port economy, gradually reducing the space for illegal activities through industrial upgrading, and striving to improve the overall image of the region.
