On January 20, 2016, Golden Triangle Group Co., Ltd. and the Department of Water Public Works of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Laos officially signed the "Memorandum of Understanding on the Handover of the 6.4-kilometer Slope Protection Project from Kapok Island to Ban Khouang Village in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone, Dong Phong District, Bokeo Province" in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone. The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. Bourphan Thetdavanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Water Public Works, Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Laos; Mr. Chanthavy Bhodisane, Vice Chairman of the Management Committee of the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone; and representatives from the Golden Triangle Group, among other relevant personnel.
At the signing ceremony, the two sides held brief talks on matters related to the handover of the slope protection project. Deputy Director-General Bophan Thittavong highly praised the successful completion of the slope protection project and, on behalf of the Lao Ministry of Public Works and Transport, expressed sincere gratitude to the Golden Triangle Group, affirming the high quality and significant value of the project.
It is understood that the Kapok Island-Ban Khouang Village slope protection project commenced construction in 2009 and was officially completed in 2014. The project spans 6.4 kilometers and represents a total investment of US$38 million, fully funded by the Golden Triangle Group Co., Ltd. Upon completion, the Golden Triangle Group officially transferred the project to the Lao national management. The completion and commissioning of this slope protection effectively mitigated the impact of Mekong River floods during the rainy season, effectively protecting the lives and property of the people in the special economic zone. It is a high-quality infrastructure project that benefits the local area and contributes to the nation; at the same time, the slope protection project blends seamlessly with the natural landscape of the Mekong River, becoming a beautiful ecological scenic line in the Golden Triangle section of the Mekong River basin.
